my yesterday live at present
I come from a German family. My fathers parents and their parents lived all their lives in and around Bremen. Bremen is an old habour city at the river Weser, about 600.000 inhabitants. Noone of my family ever left, I was the first one. My mother is from Bremen and Celle, which is not to far from Bremen. The people in my family were called Gottlieb, Karoline, Alwine, Karl, Hans, Grete, Fritz und Marianne....
My mothers father was a tramconductor and my grandmother was a housewife. My fathers father was an Oberlieutnant in the wehrmacht and my grandmother Karoline - short Lina- had a grocery shop and worked later in a hospital as a cook. They all supported the Nazis. Linas brother and husband both died fighting in worldwar 2, all of Linas properties were destroyed as bombs devastated most of the city. I like my granmother very much. She is a tough and sweet one, having worked all her life, rebuilding and repairing her and her parents properties. Her son - my father- Karl-Heinz became a ship engineer. He is travelling most of the time around the world, he has been everywhere by ship. My mother Rosemarie did several jobs: selling things in a bouique, doing housework for elderly people etc.. When I was born in 1973, we lived in a 12 stored house in the north of Bremen, close to my Grandmother. In 1980 my parents bought a house in a big developing suburb south of Bremen called Habenhausen. The houses were quite expensiv, it was beautifully located, close to the city and right beside a lake. All the house were new and clean, all the families had good income, there were no old people, just middle class families with children. It was very calm. And I think that was the time when I started watching Dallas and Denver Clan secretly, tuesday nights at 21.45 h Dallas and wednesdays at 21.00h Denver. I just loved big rich families fighting with each other. Of course my stars were J.R.Ewing and Alexis Colby. Sue Ellen and Dex Dexter were o.k. I dreamed of big limusines and shiploads of money. Later as life grew more and more boring I watched even Falcon Crest and lots of 70ies and 80ies series, about 3 hours a day. My typical dinner in that time was fish fingers with deep freeze spinach, sometimes plus fried potatoes - but doing the potatoes produced a lot of work and trash. All my friends lived around the corner and the school was near. In the weekends I always visited my grandmother in the north of Bremen - I loved to be in this old house with the rotten pigstall in the back and her 50ies furniture in the livingroom. We played a lot of cards and other games and she did much better food than my mother. I had a little garden in her big garden and my grandmother realised very early that I had a green thumb. As I grew older I more and more disliked the suburb. And my mother. She was a furious house cleaner - obsessive and merciless - desperately redecorating the house. Since my father was travelling all the time I had to put up with her alone. I went away on a scholarship: one year to the farmost point away from Habenhausen - New Zealand. That was kind of interesting but to cut along story short to much for me. Coming back home the situation had not in improved... I went into the city, went to parties, got the right friends and drunk. It was quite early clear to me that I did not want to live in the monotonie of a suburb or a small city - I still love chaotic city structures, big cities, where you always can see something new, where you can meet people from all over the world, where there is always a part of town that you dont know, and where you can always find a hole to sneak through. Well: thats the case with me and Berlin anyway. So it was quite early clear to me that the only german city left to live this way is Berlin. And I was not disappointed at all. I came here in 1994 directly after passing my final exams at school having some Jägermeister shots in front of the school and then directly catching the train to Berlin. It was just as lively and liberating as I hoped it would be. I just love to live amongst thousands and thousands of strangers and in a strange city. To me it had the air of something foreign - I lived in the eastern part of the city and I was fascinated by the former east. The people, how they were dressed, their slang, the way they behaved - I liked it a lot. I could go into a supermarket and not meet a person. I feel safe here. I live in the very centre of Berlin called Mitte. There is tram and subway right in front of my house and its very loud, sometimes I cant sleep with open windows. But most of the time I dont mind the noise. I often look out on the street - in the morning brushing teeth - and watch people passing big advertisment pictures on old houses. I live in this flat since 1996 - the longest time I have lived anywhere since I left home. Sometimes I have this vision of never leaving this flat! To one half of the poeple visiting me my flat is impossible to live in: I dont have a shower, I dont have warm water and it does not have central heating. The other half loves the view and the style. I moved in when I started drama school at the University. And I had a lot to renovate but therefor I really like it now. Three years ago I finished dramaschool and I work as a freelance actor since then.
